Pescadero, CA - Team TIBCO returns to Europe this month for another block of UCI racing. This time, the Team will challenge major races in France and Italy, including the Trophee d'Or, Grand Prix de Plouay World Cup, and the Giro della Toscana. The racing kicks off this Saturday in France for the five-day, six-stage Trophee d'Or - a UCI category 2.2 race.
From August 18-22, a five-rider Team TIBCO squad will compete against the best women cyclists in the world as they take on the Trophee d'Or. No stranger to European racing, Team Captain Meredith Miller will lead the squad. U.S. National Champion Megan Guarnier brings her fair share of European racing experience and success to the squad. Later this month, the all-star will defend her title as last year's winner of the Giro della Toscana.
Team TIBCO's Amanda Miller also joins the squad after proving her excellent form last week at La Route de France, where she held onto the yellow leader's jersey for four days. For Lauren Hall and U.S. U23 National Criterium and Road Champion Samantha Schneider, this will be their first time racing in France and Italy.
"Our Fall program brings Team TIBCO back to Europe to contest stage wins and overall victory," said the Team's European directeur sportif Angela van Smoorneburg. "These races will give our riders an opportunity to race at the highest level of the sport with an international peloton."
The Trophee d'Or kicks off Saturday with an 89.8 km road race starting in central France, just south of Bourges. Sunday morning, top teams will compete against the clock in the 9.6 km Team Time Trial, while in the afternoon, the riders will head out for a 95 km road race. Stage 3 will feature a 101 km road race, followed by the 118.3 km Stage 4 race through Avord. The five-day race will finish off with an 85.4 km race in Saint-Amand-Montrond.
