I will wager that most people viewing this thread have no idea who Edouard Fachleitner was, but he was one of the inspirational cyclists whose exploits, recounted by my grandfather, hooked me into this sport oh so many years ago now...

He died yesterday just a few hours before the Tour was to come again through his hometown. Sad.

I met him a few years ago and spent the better part of the afternoon talking about his career, his rise from a lone shephard into one of the better riders of his era and his views on the current peleton. A truly nice and extremely humble man whose contribution to the long history of this sport, as well as his passing, should not go unnoticed.
