The wifey and I are going to Tampa FL in a few weeks. My parents have a condo down there, so that part is taken care of. Any ideas are appreciated. Probably not bringing a bike.

Definitely the Dali Museum in St. Pete. Ybor city, in the daylight. Tampa aquarium is fun, also head to Sarasota for the Ringling Museum, (art not circus) and Mote aquarium.

The Ringling circus museum in Sarasota. Not for the circus part, or the house, but for the totally kick ass art museum.

Equal to the Dali Museum in totally ****ing coolness.

While you're at the Dali Museum, check out a painting called "Atmospheric Skull Sodomizing a Grand Piano"

Definitely visit the Gutt museum. I've heard it is sort of like Green Acres meets the Playboy club. I've never been there myself, but it is legendary. If you're a beer snob, make sure to bring your own. From what I understand, they only serve natty light.

+1 for Dali

Clearwater Beach - several good beach shack type places to watch the sunset

Clearwater - the original Hooters, if that's your thing

Ybor City - lots of Cuban food. The nightlife wasn't bad a few years ago but it's the kind that doesn't start till 11 pm

Orlando is just 90 mins up the interstate. Just past Gutfiddle's place.

I have a bike for you....

If you're up for a slow easy ride we can do the Suncoast trail starting in Land O Lakes. Can you ride a 56?

Route 60 pier beach in Clearwater. Take Rt 60 west until you run out of land (duh).

Mosi museum over by USF is awesome.

Lots of strip clubs over by Tampa stadium. Mons Venus is supposedly legendary (never went to any of the clubs).

Don't know if baseball season will be over yet, but if not, catch a Rays game in St. Petersburg. Another option is to see a minor league game in Clearwater - Phillies farm team. Awesome stadium, never crowded. Go on a Monday, get in for $12 and eat all you can for free.

I think every Friday night in St. Petersburg is a street festival down on the waterfront. Supposedly awesome food, beer, and night life.

Stay away from Ybor City after midnight. Bad stuff happens there in the late night hours although earlier is fine and a good time.

For NNCing, the mountain biking at Alafia and Balm Boyette is absolutely incredible.

Forgot to mention.... there is some decent canoeing and inner tubing to be had. Canoeing on the Hillsborough River is close, there are rentals, and you can check out the Florida wildlife (gators, birds, and Gut's cousins fishin). A couple hours north, about half way to the panhandle, are some fresh water springs that are awesome for swimming. There are some fresh water streams flowing from these springs you can inner tube on also. Don't have any specifics, but Google would point you in the right direction.

There are a number of good places in Tampa for beer.

http://www.tampabaybrewingcompany.com/ - Tampa Bay Brewing Co in Ybor, Mico Brew and Restaurant, 1st stop on a beer tour

http://www.cigarcitybrewing.com/Cigar_City_Beer/Welcome_to_Cigar_City_Beer_in_Tampa_Florida.html - Local Micro Brew, no restaurant, but just good beer. Very good and strong.

http://www.dunedinbrewery.com/index2.html Brew pub over in St Pete area

http://www.dunderbaks.com/ - North Side of Tampa

http://splash.wobusa.com/ - World of Beer, several location through out the Bay Area

http://www.brasstapbeerbar.com/ - North side of Tampa

Lots of place in Ybor City for beer.

No shortage of beer in Tampa. In my life, the bike and beer are always at odds with each other.

Good beer links above. Tampa Bay Brewing has some great bar food as well. For a Cuban sandwich, my two favorites are The Floridian on Kennedy Ave near West Shore and Brocato's at the intersection of I-4 and US-41 east of town. If you're into cajun food, check out the Cajun Cafe in Pinellas Park, in between Clearwater and St. Pete; they also have a great selection of craft beers. Although I'm glad I moved back to MD, I do miss those places.
