You aren't reading it wrong, and it is long for a 48. Is it a typo? I'm guessing not; I certainly wouldn't be spending my $ on it hoping it was. Ask the seller to confirm geometry if you are serious about it.

It's a compact frame, Giant bike frames use that design. I personally don't like them, I know the upside is a lighter, stiffer frame, but the downside is the limited space for water bottles, because of the smaller frame triangle.

Very misleading geo. I use a Giant compact frame. Supposedly the effective TT is 58cm, but it really comes out to a "55.5cm" labeled frame, as I know for a fact that a 56cm CAAD8 felt big for me. I love it nonetheless ride-wise.

Haven't been able to really get a thorough comparison with non-compact frames to live with, but I can say, "hay look how much seatpoast I need!" It's "versatile" fit imo. With a short seat tube, could somewhat emulate a fit for an undersized rider with a shorter stem, but eh.
