Wow! That suprised me

Hincapie charged out of the gate for second and DaveZ took the turns so slow he slotted in at 3rd.

LOL! People are more interested in LA, Doping, OLN and temporally challenged Landis than who won the prologue! I left out "Thor takes yellow" so I wouldn't piss off those allergic to spoilers - maybe that's not a good idea.

Anyway, what was up with DaveZ taking those corners in slow mo? Came into the corners slow and didn't pedal? Did Riss tell him to hold back? He took the 180 at the DL at the limit, but slowed down here for a S turn

Yes, I would have expected him to be well back, going for wins on coming stages instead. Don't forget Landis performed very well, once you factor in the late-start deficit and being flustered. Hincapie also suprised me - wow. It will be very interesting to see Georgie ride the Tour without all the selfless sacrifice.

The specialists were all outshone.

Yea, I picked him.

Uh...I wrote it down on a piece of paper somewhere but I can't find it right now. But you believe me right?

I liked the curvy course and the long straightaway at the end. You could watch the seconds tick down and wonder would "he" make it?

It's nice that a (probably) non-overall contender can do something like that. Those moments make it more interesting than if the top overall contenders win everything. Maybe Thor will win some sprints this week.

I haven't got a clue who will win, but for Hincapie it's probably good that he is not in the yellow jersey.

Hinc has great power - he's not as aero as DaveZ (who looks just perfect on his TT bike). I'm thinking maybe GH has a decent shot at a top 5 rank. Not as many mountain top finishes, his TT is very good and he's a fast 'rouler'. His power/weight ratio looks to be the best ever this year - so maybe he can stick with all but the best climbers and not lose much time to them.

PS Oh yeah, I believe you ;)

Leipheimer was quite disappointing. Beaten by 4 Frenchmen. That's going to leave a mark.
Hopefully he just had a bad day. Time will tell - I'd like to see him be more competitive.

What about Valverde? Seems the boy has learned to TT. This is all a plot by the Spanish to give Valverde the GC overall. You heard it hear first!!
Valverde's sprinting has always put him as one of the favorites for short prologue-style time trials. See Romandie prologue. Leipheimer, on the other hand, is more of an endurance type rider and has never done well on short courses. And he might lose some time in longer time trials.

But let's not forget that Leipheimer is the best-placed rider from last year's tour. So while Landis is impressive at times, and so is Valverde - they both are not as consistent. Landis always has a bad day in the mountains. Hincapie's climbing is still questionable (don't bring up last year's 19-minute breakaway - it's not the same). Valverde may not be as good in longer time trials, and he hasn't finished last year's Tour - so I wonder if his endurance is good enough to keep it up over three weeks.

It should be interesting.

Landis may have had bad days in the mountains in prior tours, but he appears to be a different man this year. Also, he knew that he couldn't hang with Lance which was kind of a mental block many riders had in prior tours. This year, its a free for all in the mountains. His climbing has really improved this year too. Remember Tommy D trying to drop him on Brasstown?

Floyd is my pick for GC provided that he makes it to the starts on time...
