If the thumb shifter is friction (non-indexed), then any brand will work. If the thumb shifter is 7spd indexed, then any brand will work except Campagnolo (and there aren't too many Campagnolo thumb shifters around). This is because essentially every brand has copied the Shimano indexing system. The only exceptions are Campagnolo's very short lived MTB system from the late '80s - early '90s, and the Suntour system from the same time period. However, the Suntour system was so close to the Shimano system that the Suntour shifters can work perfectly fine.High Gear said:Can I use any brand 7 speed thumb shifter for Shimano 7 speed SIS?
