I'm thinking about a custom ti bike (nothing serious, just thinking) and I'm wondering what my options are. So far the custom ti builders I can think of include:

Seven
Serotta
Titus
Merlin
IF
?

What else should I check out?

Tom Kellogg (Spectrum Cycles) designed the first Merlins so he may know what he is doing.

Moots frames are somewhat unique and are "cool". The guy that started Moots sold out and has a new company now, but I'm not sure what it is called.

If you saw the latest edition of VeloNews, you know you can buy a computer program (approx $400) to design your own bike in detail. Then just someone to weld it up for you.

Unless you have some unique body dimensions, I'm not sure exactly what you get from a custom frame other than pride of ownership. That being said, I know three ladies who have custom Sevens and love them. Also know a guy with a custom IF. He is tall and likely needed a custom fit.

I believe he's one of the founders of Litespeed. I know several people w/ them and I hear nothing but good things. Excellent workmanship.
"He" is actually a "they". The Lynskey family founded Litespeed and sold it with a no compete contract for some years. The no compete clause has expired so they are back. Do not buy Ti without looking into their stuff first.

I've never seen one in real life but the pictures of Mike DeSalvo's creations are pretty nice, he seems to have good prices and fairly short wait times. He would definately be on my list.

Also Dean out of Boulder, CO specialise in titanium. You may want to check lead time on those though, I knew a guy who was messed around a little with his to the point he cancelled his order.

You can get all kinds of cool stuff done to a custom frame aside from the fit.

Examples are including or excluding things like pump peg, custom cable routing, clearance for wider tires, fender/rack mounts, disc brakes, canti bosses, crazy mixes of different tube materials (i.e. ti frame w/ carbon stays), custom paint scheme, specially tuned ride quality for weight and riding style, and custom head tube badge.

I'm not saying I am a fan of all these things, but some may want them. The custom experience does not end after the rider is fitted and the tube angles and lengths are chosen.

As for the OPs Ti query, I would suggest finding a builder local to you, sitting down with him/her and see if you mesh on bike ideas and check out some examples of their work. If this is not possible, look at some of the builder's sites listed in this thread, pick a few whose work you admire and call them up. Go with whoever gives you the best vibe. Enjoy.
