Being in the southern hemisphere and coming into winter more and more of the days are too wet or windy to go out for a ride, so the trainer has come out of storage and is now in the living room. I know that the tire pressure will change depending on how far the roller is tightend but is their an ideal pressure that I should have my tires in order to preserve them?

Don't worry about preserving the tire... just put on an old worn out tire and ride it like that till you see threads.
