The 82nd edition of the much anticipated Tour of Belgium will feature some big names all out with one purpose - to win this prestigious five-day stage race.

Omega Pharma - Quick Step: Tom Boonen, Tony Martin and Niki Terpstra.
RadioShack Leopard: Fabian Cancellara, Maxime Montfort and Stijn Devolder.
Lotto - Belisol: Andre Greipel and Jurgen Roelandts.
BMC: Phillippe Gilbert and Greg Van Arvermaet.
Blanco: Lars Boom, Tom Slagter and Sep Vanmarcke.
Astana: Francesco Gavazzi, Mixim Iglinsky and Andrea Guardini.
Katusha: Simon Spilak

Of these, five are former winners of this race; Martin (2012), Gilbert (2011), Devolder (2008 and 2010), Boom (2009) and Boonen (2005).
On paper, the strongest team appears to be Omega Pharma - Quick Step - and one can safely assume they will be riding for Tony Martin to repeat his success of last year here. Looking to foil the well laid plans of Martin and Co. are RadioShack Leopard, who will undoubtably play Fabian "Spartacus" Cancellara as thier ace, and BMC's Phillippe Gilbert - World Champion and former Belgian National Champion - who will want to win this race badly. Blanco's Lars Boom, RadioShack's Stijn Devolder and Katusha's Simon Spilak are clear and present threats as well.

Should be a great race!

Lochristi to Knokke-Heist 194.2km

André Greipel (Lotto-Belisol) proved he's the strongest sprinter in the Tour of Belgium peloton with an exciting group sprint in which he was ably led out by his train of Lotto teammates. He takes the first leaders jersey but it is unlikely, given the parcours, that he will hold that jersey for long.

Notable was the return of current Belgian National Champion and crowd favorite Tom Boonen (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) to some form - he certainly gave "The Gorrila" a run for his money during the sprint finish.

Current Top-Ten on GC:
1) André Greipel (Lotto-Belisol) 4:34:53
2) Tom Boonen (Omega Pharma-Quick Step)
3) Ramon Sinkeldam (Argos-Shimano)
4) Danny van Poppel (Vacansoleil-DCM)
5) Michael Van Staeyen (Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise)
6) Yukiya Arashiro (Europcar)
7) Tom Van Asbroeck (Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise)
8) Niki Terpstra (Omega Pharma-Quick Step)
9) Maxime Vantomme (Crelan-Euphony)
10) Adrien Petit (Cofidis)

Stage Two: Knokke-Heist to Ninove 178.8km

This stage starts out fairly benign with a flat lead-up but then takes a trurn for the worse with ten short-sharp hills of note and a couple of smaller inclines befor the finish. The Sprinters will not love this stage.

Stage Two - Results - Spoiler Warning

Knokke-Heist to Ninove 178.8km

Despite my lack of faith, André Greipel (Lotto Belisol) pulled off the hat-trick today with his second Tour of Belgium stage victory in a row. However, there are many big names in the vicinity such as Boonen, Gilbert and Terpstra who do not intend for Greipel and Lotto-Belisol to hold that leader's jersey any longer than is needed.

Current Top-Ten on GC:
1) André Greipel (Lotto Belisol) 8:46:02
2) Tom Boonen (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) 0:00:10
3) Danny van Poppel (Vacansoleil-DCM) 0:00:14
4) Ramon Sinkeldam (Argos-Shimano) 0:00:16
5) Philippe Gilbert (BMC) 0:00:17
6) Jurgen Roelandts (Lotto Belisol)
7) Niki Terpstra (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) 0:00:18
8) Pieter Jacobs (Topsport Vlaanderen-Baloise)
9) Nikolas Maes (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) 0:00:19
10) Francesco Gavazzi (Astana)

Stage Three: (ITT) Beveren 15km

Looking at this ITT stage, I suspect someone like Niki Terpstra might do very well here, so I'm going to tip him to take the leader's jersey at the end of the day.

(ITT) Beveren 15km

Niki Terpstra (Omega Pharma-Quick Step)did well, but his teammate and current TT World Champion Tony Martin did better.
Not only did Martin win the stage, he took over the red leader's jersey as well and now has a 40sec cushion between himself and his closest challenger. Should Martin falter, Omega Pharma-Quick Step has three other riders in the Top-Five who could step into the leader's jersey.

Current Top-Ten on GC:
1) Tony Martin (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) 9:04:04
2) Tom Dumoulin (Argos-Shimano) 0:00:40
3) Tom Boonen (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) 0:00:50
4) Kristof Vandewalle (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) 0:00:53
5) Niki Terpstra (Omega Pharma-Quick Step) 0:00:59
6) Philippe Gilbert (BMC) 0:01:04
7) Manuel Quinziato (BMC) 0:01:11
8) Stijn Devolder (RadioShack Leopard Trek)
9) Luis Leon Sanchez (Blanco) 0:01:16
10) Alexey Tsatevich (Katusha) 0:01:17

Nice to see that Tom Boonen has returned to some form after his troubled Spring campaign.
