Ok, not a real dog track. I rode the fixie to the grocery store Sunday morning to get some food stuffs for a picnic and dinner. On the way home I saw people setting up a grill and barriers in the PetLand parking lot. I swung by asked what was going on. I was told they were having weiner races, starting at 11:00. When I got home I mentioned it to The Wife, and it became the destination for the day.

First, we rode around Rollins Savannah. It was pretty crowded, which means we saw about 20 people on the 7 mile loop. After that we stopped at Sunrise Park, one of The Kid's top 3 parks. He played a bit, then we had lunch.

When lunch was complete I showed the way to the races. They just completed a new sidewalk that connects the high school to a magnate school to the strip mall. Without this sidewalk there is about 300 yards of two lane, heavily trafficed highway. The Wife was happy to see the new sidewalk, and I had visions of summer rides to the mexican restaurant we like.

The Kid thought the races were pretty cool. The only way to get him back in the cart was a promise of orange sherbet at the Baskin Robbins in the same strip mall on the way home. There was only one girl working the store, and she was in teh back making the waffle cones for the night business. I looked around, saw only one camera, and thought, "man, this place would be easy to rob."

As The Wife and The Kid ate sherbet, a boy and girl came in the shop. They walked down to the icecream cake freezer, right by the door that leads to the back where the girl was making cones. About a minute later two other boys walked in. They were dressed in low baggy jeans, stiff brim caps, and looked to be trouble. This strip mall is in a part of town where some shady things sometimes happen, and my thought of robbing the place popped up again. My back was turned to them, but The Wife witnesses a drug drop, Probably meth.

When we left she said, "Don't think we'll be riding back this way again."

After dinner we took his Balance Bike to the school park, then around the block. He did a little over 1/2 mile on his "BB." He was ready to do more, but it was getting close to bath time.

Lunch at the park. Turkey and salami sandwich, toms, chips, and sparkling cider. Notice the Latin Kings tags on the picnic table.

One was fast. The other two took their time.

Two bassetts were fast. One just hung out in the shade of the starting gate.

Some were a bit serious. Free dog food for a year was the overall prize.

Enjoying the sherbet. If you look, you can see part of one of the drug droppers. About 3:00

indeed, mr men are back

just like most stuff nowadays, mr men is back. a cartoon airs on the cartoon network now. it is the only thing my kid asks to watch on tv. the only other TV thing he has any interest in is PTI and the specialized commercial with bettini.

great marketing when you think about it. find out what new parents were into back in the day and start manufacturing again for their kids.
cabbage patch kids? check
transformers? check
my little pony? check
strawberry shortcake? check
gi joe? check
get a nice movie tie-in, and you are set.

the worst was the reissue of weeble wobbles. they dont look like eggs anymore. and little people? yeah, they look nothing like the ones we grew up with.

It's a Bino Bike

The web site has not been working for some time. I think they went out of business. When we got the bike the front wheel was mis-shappened and wouldnt hold the tire. And the top layer of plywood had peeled away on one side. I emailed them and they sent an entire new side panel and wheel. I emailed back to thank them for making it right. But, it looks like they are out of business. Or have been bought out. You can still find specialty shops that carry them online.

Here is a site that has some different styles listed:

The Radio Flyer Balance Bike comes closest in color. And every now and then you can find a natural wood one at Target for a steal at $50. But if I were to do it over agaion, I might go for the Trek one. It is $180, but comes with a drive train you can attach later. The Kid is probably ready for pedals, and he's not even 3 yet. His balance is amazing on the BB, and he always asks for his own pedals.

Just found this at woodypushbike.com. A steal at $40.00
