I am seriously considering a Trek Pilot 2.1 SPA. I really like the relaxed upright position of this bike. Two questions:

1. Are there any other bikes on the market similar to the Pilot?

2. Is the SPA feature on the Pilot worth extra $$$$$ or should I go with a full carbon frame?

You could try...

I have a Giant OCR Zero (Austrailian version - alum with full carbon rear). Really happy with it.

It has a more relaxed position than a "race" bike but not upright like a hybrid and would be similar geometry to the pilot.

The SPA may be a bit of overkill unless you ride on real crappy roads or cobbles.

That my 2 cents anyway.

I ride a Pilot 5.1 and love it. I would go with the full carbon- the ride is tremendous. Very comfortable on long rides, light and responsive. I didn't ride the SPA bike. Once I got on the 5.1, that was it. I also tried the Specialized Roubaix, similar geometry, and a bit lighter.

Digger51 I'm upgrading from a Trek 2100 to a Pilot 5.2. I get to pick up the bike tomorrow!

I have ridden the 2100 for a little over a year now but got the itch for something with a full CF frame. The Pilot series interests me because I've got 3 ruptured cervical vertebrae and a little more upright riding posture hurts less.
