I am thinking of going from a tripe fsa gossamer crank to a double compact cross crank (36/46) on my tricross. What do I need to change besides the crank? My front derailleur is a 105 triple -- can I get away with adjusting the limit screws to prevent the movement? I guess the same goes for the front shifter -- if I can get away with just playing with the limit screws then I would not need a new front shifter?

Thanks for any help.

You don't say what shifters you have, but both the 105 ST-5500 9-speed and the 105 ST-5600 10-speed front shifters are designed to work with both triples and doubles. Your triple front derailleur should work fine with the compact double, so give it a try. Performance differences in front derailleurs are mostly in the mind of the beholders. :)
