I am planning the costs for tools and parts to build my own wheelset. Any suggestions on a truing stand?

Old fork or buy the Musson e-book and use his plans to build your own.

I just used the cheapest Spin Doctor stand from Performance for my first wheel build and it worked fine. I'm a fan of tools and was tempted to go with the Park Tool Professional stand, but I couldn't justify spending twice what I spent on the stand + dish stick for only building a couple wheels a year.

This is mine: I've been very happy with it. The e-book was a good investment, and constituted half of the cost of the truing stand.

I have one of Roger's wheelstands, not made by me but supplied by him. He had some made by a cabinetmaker in the UK (where he lives) for wheelbuilding classes he once taught. In his e-book are the plans that were used.

Around the internet, various renditions of his original idea have shown up. This is the best one I ever saw. It was done in oak and tricked out. The original is shown on my webpage.

Do a Google Image search for "roger musson truing stand". Lotsa stuff there.

I have a Minoura

They're not expensive, fold up nicely and work. I also have a folding Minoura dishing guage. The wood ones look nice but I don't have the space for them. View attachment 278025
