Hi folks.

I have an Innovations Ultraflate Pro inflator, which comes with 16g cartridges. They are all I've ever used.

I saw a box of 12g cartridges at Walmart in the paint gun area. These cartridges are a little (2 or 3 mm) shorter than the 16g cartridges I've been using.

Anybody know if they'll work in the Innovations inflator?

Thanks.

12g won't inflate a tire quite as high.

12g puts around 90 psi in a 23mm tire. They are also "good enough" for a 25mm.
If I remember correctly, a 16g will put 120psi in a 23mm tire.

Check out the Redrock Distributing Storefront at Amazon. They have 12g and 16g cats in both threaded and non-threaded varieties. Many say they specifically say "Genuine Innovations compatible". I'd stick with 16g. I ride 700x25 so I definitely want those but even if you are light and ride narrower 16g will give you more options. I'd rather have to let a bit out of the tire after putting the shot into it then not have enough.

Their prices on threaded 16g are so good I'm thinking about ditching my large Ultraflate for a smaller, more easily stowed, Air Chuck.

I just pack the 12g. I am not a ww, so I pack a mini pump along with two 12g cartridges. I use the mini to seat the tire, inflat to around 30PSI and finish off with a 12g. If I am unfortunate enough to have more than two flats I have the mini to get me home.

I can get a case of 24 12g for around $13 at Kmart. Enough for a couple of years.

I played around with 12g co2 years ago and I think I got 83psi with a 25 tire.

Yeah, that's the main reason I'm looking at the 12g. They are $11 for 25 of them.

To ans your question directly - yes they'll work just fine. I have an Ultraflate and I buy my cartridges there. I wish they carried the 16 g.

yup these are the very ones I purchased as a box of 15 to reduce the cost per cartridge VS any LBS.

Seems like I'll need to put something in the bottom of the inflater to raise the 12g cartridge to the correct height so the head can puncture the cartridge. What do most folks use for this purpose?

Thanks.

I think the 12g and 16g are the same length, diff is in the circumference. The Ultraflate will work with 12g or 16g cartridges threaded or unthreaded.

Most of what we decide to pack with us is based on our own experiences. You just need to find out what works for you.

Perhaps there are more than one form factor of 12g cartridges. The ones I bought are Crosman brand; apparently they can be used for various air-powered weapons.

They are definitely a couple mm shorter than the 16s I have. The cartridge is not punctured by the head when I screw it on, which is why something will need to be inserted in the inflater body.

I had the same experience with mine. And now it seems the puncture needle is blunted or broken off and it won't fully open the cartridge. Funny thing is, the cheaper inflater with the screw-on valve instead of the locking lever pump-style head that I first bought many, many years ago works perfectly with 12 gram carts, and I'm pretty sure it's the same brand. I remember the first time I was on the road with a flat and had my first 12 g cart in the new inflater that woud not reach the needle, I was looking around for little pebbles to put in the bottom, LOL.

I use the 12g unthreaded. Never had a problem. I've used Crossmart and others. Notice the little hole at the bottom of the Ultraflate inflator? Perhaps that allows the 16g to fit. The 16g cartridge will protrude out of the holder a tad.

The hole in the body of the inflater is for storing a cartridge in it upside down; the nipple of the cartridge protrudes through it.

If you can use 12g cartridges with your Ultraflate without doing anything special, then there is more than one form factor for them, because the ones I have definitely will not work (without inserting something in the bottom of the inflater).

I use the Innovations Ultraflate Plus. Perhaps you have the Innovations Proflate 16, that only works with 16g unthreaded.

That could be the difference - I have the Ultraflate Pro. I think they've been discontinued.

That's the one I have. I've never had a problem with 12gs. The inflator handles 16 & 12s threaded or unthreaded without problem or any spoecial mods like putting something in the bottom so thje cartridge can be punctured.

The only problem I ever had is when I bought some cheap 16g cartridges on Ebay. They were too long by a few millimeters, and that prevented me from screwing the cap on. I threw those away. Now when I buy cartridges from Walmart, Kmart, Gander Mt., etc. I take the inflater into the store with me to make sure they fit.
