I have had pre-STI 9 spd. Ultegra on one of my bikes for about four years and wish to upgrade shifters and drivetrain. I noticed today on the "DA comparison site" that many 7700 parts sources are showing the "NA" notation. Does it now make sense to go 10 spd. even though 9 spd. is perfectly acceptible for my riding? Is a present 7700 upgrade a moribund direction? What makes the most sense?

If you intend to change your shifters, derailleurs and cassette anyway it makes sense to go 10spd. Nine speed should be around for awhile but not forever. NOS will be available for a long time and used parts even longer. The technology will continue to live on even after they totally discontinue the road parts because mountain bikes will still run 9spd. Shimano will put their development effort into 10spd on the road so it makes sense to go with the flow, assuming you're going to get new stuff anyway.
