That's a lot of coin for a beat ass bike.
A very Vaughters proposition indeed. VdVelde's used bike is $8999.

As new, MSRP is $6999 but without Di2, and without carbon tubs.

With Di2, add about what $2000? Mavic Carbone SLR clincher is $2000. So you "save" about $2000, and you do get the honor of riding a bike that will become totally so out of date when the manufacturers introduce new models during the TdF.

This bike was raced by Christian in the first half of 2010. The frame is a 56cm Felt F1 SL, weighing in at 898 grams. Chrisitan's race replica has Shimano's revolutionary Di2 electronic shifting system, which has made day in / day out perfect shifting the norm, not the exception. We've also included a pair of Mavic's super stiff and aero SLR wheelset.

I read this as you'd be getting a new bike?

People who buy things like this aren't looking for a "deal". They are looking for a one of a kind treasure. Each to his own for sure, but its not a mass market appeal item. There are probably only a handful of folks who could or would buy it.

Rode with a guy last weekend who was building up Wiggin's spare AR-1 from last year. Looked brand new and the Garmin and Slipstream paint job looked very sharp.
A former team bike would be nice to have if you could get one at used bike prices as opposed to "collectible" prices.
