Looking good for the early season as he picks up a decisive win in Vuelta a Murcia Stage 2. I just hope he's planning on finishing as he's also on the start list for P-N.

Meanwhile, six minutes back were Vino, Rasmussen and Mayo. Beltran is just a minute back. Not sure tomorrow's TT will be as decisive as Saturday's stage:

The race dates overlap, so Valverde would not be allowed to start in PN if he drops out of Murcia.

Cunego is only 1 minute behind as well, could be interesting how he is shaping up after last years mono induced debacle.

Valverde will have a monster year.

it's too bad Discovery didn't get a swoop when I.B. was suffering.
Vino was a darkhorse as it's really a bit early for him (though he usually shows well in Paris Nice) I think he's gonna try to start peaking around the Amstel /L-B-L and carry that into the Tour.

Because I like Valverde's fluid, attacking style I can only be grateful Disco didn't get their paws on him - he's great like he is ;)

Wish we had some Eurosport coverage - lot of big names stepping out in Murcia and a lot of big hills - just have to settle for Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico instead.....

agreed.

I'm only saying them because they seemed to be actively seeking a new talent for the post LA team. But can you imagine how devastating he'd be having that level of support?
Being shielded untilthe final few K's and then releasing that fluid attack?

Vino only has a few days to improve to do well in Paris-Nice. He had better get on it pretty quick. With the tamer climbing in this year's Paris-Nice, Landis will be The Man.

I would not bet on Vino doing well in any of the Sping classics. It looks like he is going to wager all on the Tour. When he gets there he will get crushed on one mountain stage and use a series of opportunistic attacks to gain back part of the time he loses. It's his standard plan.

L-B-L and Amstel

are prime warm ups for Tour contenders. It's why LA was close so many times ,Tyler took one, these have a parcourse and set up that saerves GC hopefuls well.

It's about time....

It's funny b/c Valverde is one of the only riders these days who, when he doesn't win by March 1st, people get worried about his form...

I think I read somehwere that Vino is bagging PN. He would have to if he was at all considering finishing Murcia since the last stage is Sunday. Same with Valverde, although I'm not sure what the rules are on leaving mid-stage race.

edit: Getting back to Murcia, Gutierrez just smoked the TT and has a one-minute lead on his teammate, Valverde, going into tomorrow's stage.

He has said that he was not going to concentrate on any of the Spring classics this year.

Interesting to see VDB has managed to get this far without shooting himself--or someone else. Maybe he'll finally get it together.

And Mayo is hanging in there...only losing 10+ seconds a kilometer.

VDB finishing 19th in the TT is an encouraging sign.
