Review: Velocio Men's Ultralight Jersey and Signature Bib Shorts
While much vaunted for its women's line of clothing, Velocio also offers an impressive line of men's cycling apparel. Over the course of the last several months, I've ridden in the Velocio Men's Ultralight Jersey and Signature Bib Shorts and they've delivered comfort and style in spades.
My personal requirements for a perfect jersey include a slim fit, full zip, three usable pockets, and increasingly I prefer a longer sleeve on short sleeve models. An attractive color is also nice. In the case of Velocio's Ultralight Jersey every one of those boxes is ticked.
Three usable pockets are much appreciated.
Having previously used, and disliked, lightweight jerseys that were too light and only led to strange sunburn lines, the weight of the Velocio jersey is welcome. It's certainly a summer jersey, though I used it in cooler temperatures with a base layer. Hold it up to the light and you can see how thin the material is, yet it still offers protection from the sun.
Longer sleeves and small reflective tabs keep you looking good and visible at the same time.
Fit is not as tight as the brand's Signature jersey. I tested a size small and was happy with the fit, as I usually find myself between small and medium. Offered in both Vintage White and Irish Green, I liked the verdant hue and the subtle polka dot pattern. The salmon accent on the inside of the collar isn't exactly my style, but oh well.

Details that are easy to miss are numerous. The zipper garage at the base of the zip keeps it from snagging your shorts - and potentially fraying the material it contacts. A silicone gripper around the bottom of the jersey helps keep it from rotating even when the pockets are unevenly loaded. On the back of each sleeve and on the left pocket are reflective tabs.

Pricing is excellent for such a high quality garment. At $140, I'll never claim that the Velocio Ultralight Jersey is cheap. But I don't want to ride in cheap clothing. I want functional quality that will last, and both Velocio garments reviewed deliver that for less than many other high quality apparel brands.
Men's Signature Bib Shorts
If you're a fan of compression, then Velocio's Signature bibs are for you. I wear a size medium in virtually every major apparel manufacturer and so it was with Velocio. For that same size, though, the Signature bibs are very snug. Pulling the shorts on you notice it immediately. Once the bib stirrups are over your shoulder it's obvious that these are made specifically for the riding position. Standing up straight can be a tad uncomfortable.
Velocio's Men's Signature Bib Shorts are a compressive pair of super comfortable bibs. They are designed for the riding position and can feel a bit tight when standing upright.
For reference, the fit is very different from Rapha's Classic Bib, a somewhat loose short, as well as another of my favorites, Giro's Chrono Expert, a slightly tighter option. Compared to both, the Velocio bibs are quite snug, offering support for your legs that many find comfortable. I was a bit mixed on how I felt about the fit but once on and pedaling, they are extremely comfortable. The wide leg grippers combined with the strong elastic material of the shorts do a great job of keeping the shorts from riding up.
The crisscrossing bib straps offer great support and comfort.
The bib straps are very comfortable and are a bit different from most on the market. Made of seamless microfiber, they cross in the back, which helps keep the shorts very stable. Pulling them up, the shorts feel better than with them down. This is obviously a good thing, but the feel of the Velocio bibs is great and part of that can be attributed to the bib straps.
Low-key branding and reflective logos keep the Signature Bibs looking good.
The chamois used is an EIT Endurance HD Men's model. What does that mean? Honestly, I don't know. But the chamois is very comfortable, especially on long days. I did notice that the front of the chamois comes up a bit higher, nice for those who prioritize a bit of modesty. It also features a "Super Air" perforated base that is designed to help with ventilation. While many riders are fans of chamois cream, I am not. A dry chamois is a happy chamois in my opinion and the new breed of ventilated chamois is a good thing.
Small features include low-key, reflective logos on both legs and the left hip, and a tasteful color tag on the right leg. Even the tag inside the short is placed high enough not to bother your backside. That's not the case with all shorts.
Wide leg grippers keep the already snug shorts from riding up.
Also noteworthy is that Velocio offers a 30-day guarantee on its Signature Bibs. If you're not happy with them, you can send them back for a refund.
After several months of testing, the Velocio Signature bibs have held up very well. They show no sign of wear or fading. I machine wash all my cycling clothing on the cold setting and hang dry everything. This does seem to help clothing last longer, but lower quality apparel can still show signs of wear after eight weeks of use. This isn't the case with the Velocio clothing.
