VGT or LX 500 with Bar Cons

I am mounting SunTour friction racheting BarCons on my utility bike to work with a Shimano 7 speed cassette . The bike presently has a LX 500 rd. Would a SunTour VGT be a improvement on shfting performance or should I leave the LX on?
