So, cleaning up the bike a bit yesterday and it looks like my rear derailleur has some serious defect/imminent failure going on. The piece missing on the inside cage was delaminated and coming apart, so I pulled it off to see just what was going on. Anyway, has anyone ever seen this? Guessing I should be able to replace just the inside cage or maybe this looks like a warranty. FWIW, it's a SRAM Red 2012(?) derailleur. Any thoughts on this?

I agree with your assessment. It can't be good.

That looks like more than just finish peeling though. It's into and perhaps beyond the outer resin layer and the first layer of carbon fibers.

Tweeted the SRAM guys with the pics and they agree, NOT normal. Since it's a '12 model, no warranty, but the guys sent me the replacement p/n to order via LBS. I'll be stopping by the shop on the way home tonight.

Yeah, I'd replace it, too. SRAM's warranty is 2 or 3 years? So, unfortunately, you probably won't get a warranty, but it may not hurt to have your lbs also ask SRAM.
