Great racing today...

Wow, those of you who don't have cycling.tv missed one heck of a race today. WOW!!! Hushovd by a fingernail!
I thought Fillipo was going to pull it out again, but NO!! Thor would not have such a thing. I was just reading the race reports, and was on the phone with a friend of mine going back and forth about that last 10k, it was freakin' unreal. I can't wait to see the video of it. It was a throw down, bare knuckled brawl kind of end of the race. I thought Pettachi had it wrapped, but... No. That guy (Bert was it?) from Davitamon-Lotto played the spoiler and went on the attack. Ballsy move. Didn't work, but ballsy, and then the counter from Pozzatto (SP??). And then the wind up, and the sprint from Thor. Great race. Damn, wish I had gone to Belgium for this week. Amazing racing so far this week.

I think eurosport is playing it right now on the air. I hope the show video at the end.

i don't know. i didn't find it so amazing, felt a bit like a sprinters stage in a GT, except the fields were broken up by the climbs and cross winds. Certainly better than the schelderprijs will be in a weeks time (now that's a boring race). :)

Pozzato's attack was pretty damn impressive, i'll grant you that.

well Ghent is the 'sprinters classic'

but unlike tour windups the Kemmelberg thins the herd and you always have breaks for the line. No young Belgian worth is weight is just gonna sit there and concede it hence the late attacks. Nice grind Filippo the wind got ya, but the big man powered through.

Sprinters Classic? I thought that was Paris-Tours? :)

The Schelderprijs is more of a sprinters race, at least it has been for the last 10-15 years (apart from last year of course). I did the amateur race on the closing circuit 12 years ago. That was one hard mofo. The average for the first couple of hours was +/- 28 MPH! I rode myself into the ground, just to stay in the field.

is the Sprinters 'classic' (like MSR is tghe sprinters monument. I guess I should have put the qualifier 'Belgian' in front of it. my bad.

Agreed about the Schelderprijs (Tom's last race of focus) but that race doesn't have the status of GW. GW is as damn close to 'full classic' as a minor classic can be. It is also the only race in Belgium of this esteem that a true sprinter seems able of winning. I guess I should put a qualifier, since P-R is French, I still consider it more of a Belgian race due to it has a higher # of Belgian victors, fans and just seems to be their race more than the French.

I checked out cycling TV. I've never heard of it. I am having a hard time getting info. on a subscription. Do you know how much it is? Besides 19.99 sterling I mean!
How do you find out the time the races are broadcast here? Is it French TV that shows it if the race is in France and Belgium TV if it's in Belgium? Is it a year subscription or per race?
I'll check out the site again but I got pretty frustrated the first time.
Thanks for any info.

it comes out to about $32 or $33/yr USD. you need a media player. (i use windows media player.) you'll also want to have some kind of broadband access. my home DSL works fine. but i can't watch the races live because my work filters streaming media. so i have to wait until they archive them, which seems to take about 2-3 days. then you can watch them whenever you want. there's no extra fee for that. the broadcasts are all in english. they use the feed from the race. so in belgium, for instance, you'll see the sporza feed with english commentary. it's actually a pretty awesome service. they've managed to secure some top races. paris-roubaix is live this sunday. they've also been covering the tour of basque country (vuelta a pais vasco). i could only imagine how much time i could kill at work if i could get past the filter!
