I have heard this strange phrase several times of late. What, pray-tell, does this phrase mean? Also, not c0d3...

I first heard it as a line in a Vietnam War movie - the one with Charlie Sheen and Christopher Walken, I think.

Anyway, the grunt says to Sarge, hey sarge I got a pass lemme hop a ride on the chopper
Sarge says no, the VC are coming tonight and I need every swingin D that I can get, on the line.

So in plural, it refers to manpower.

It's actually modern slang referring to the 1998 Dixie Chix scandal in which the lead singer and the redhead swapped husbands only to have an audio tape of said drunken encounter leaked to the press. Ergo, "Swinging dix" indicates something with a high potential for accidentally publicized drunken debauchery."

this I would normally agree with...but their definition is retarded.

doesn't mean manpower persay but just everyone.

"I need every swinging D here at this meeting tom morning"

"we are going to need every swinging D to get the job done"

No, "Platoon". Walken was in "Deer Hunter", but I'm pretty sure that line is from "Platoon" with Willem Dafoe.

yeah I think it was Platoon, that's the one where Dafoe is the evil Sarge who gets left behind by his own guys at the end and you see him take about 800 rounds as the chopper flies away, right?

No, No, No No.

It was Tom Bernger who needed every swingin dic in the field.
And he was not evil.
