well it was bound to happen sooner of later had some rocks fly up into the frame and chip the pain pretty good, I know nothing I get out of the store will be perfect but what would be good just to cover it up, I don't really care about color matching

You can find little touch up bottles of paint at automotive parts stores. There is nothing wrong with nail polish either.

Would that be clear nail polish? Or a rough aproximation of the colour of your bike?

I like my paint chips with a little salt and pepper

some prefer vinegar but thats not my thing.

Along with nail polish and auto touch up paint, add hobby store little bottles of enamel or lacquer. You can either find a close enough match or buy a couple of bottles and mix to proper tint. Cheap, easy.

its just black so maching should be easy its also aluminum what would stick best to that

if the aluminum looks real smooth, you can take a rough scotch brite pad to scuff or some fine sandpaper. If the surface to be painted on is too smooth, the new paint will chip off.

I used to try to match as well as I could, but the slight mis-match looked worse to me than just using clear nail polish.

I use Alkyd oil paint (any hobby store). It drives tough as nails, and you can mix it to any color you want. It's super durable.
