So as some of you know, a few days ago (Sunday), I crashed and lost a pretty good amount of skin.

After the crash, I lost a lot of skin but it wasn't anything deep. I covered everything and bandaged it, and as of yesterday or the day before, it'd stopped bleeding and finally scabbed over. Today, I noticed lots of bright pink new skin forming around the edges of the scab, and the scabbed gotten dramatically smaller.

Well, I just took a shower, got out, continued watching my movie. When I looked over at my leg, I flipped out. The main injury had leaked a gelatinous reddish, pasty liquid that had flown all the way down to my ankle. Not a lot of it, maybe 2 drops. But there was a big thing of it on my knee, and there's some major streaking going on on my leg. Additionally, there's a gob of it on the upper cut by my patellar tendon, still visible in the photo. I'm not in any pain, or even discomfort

Up till now, I thought I was healing well. Is this normal looking? Or should I be heading to the university's medical center tomorrow instead of going on my ride?

Not looking for a "You have this" type diagnosis, rather a "You need to go to a doctor" or "You're fine, legs do that".

Top pic, leg the day after I crashed. Bottom pic, leg now.

Same thing happened to me on my worst ever knee roadrash damage thing. Looked good, healing up, did some stuff after a few days, big bag of deep red goop formed, burst and then things went back to healing again.

I blew it off and today I am still walking upright. Who knows?

It's not a bag. It's leaking through the wound on its own, free. I feel like it's not a big issue, but all the same..

I'm not going to pretend to be a doctor, I'm just telling you the same thing happened to me. In my case it filled up under a membrane that was over the scabbed area and then blobbed out. Clearly mine came from under the wound just like yours did. I only had it one time and that was when the RR was really deep. My theory was that it was just some waste byproduct of the healing process that had to go somewhere. When you get wounds like that, the body shoves lots of fluids to the area to stop the infection. It gets used up and needs to go away. I said "Oh gee gosh", wiped it up and forgot about it. And my leg is still there today.

PM physasst, maybe he's working nights.

Hmm. That's a pretty sensible rationale. I think I'm probably going to go to bed and see if it's colorful in the morning.

Well, your second pic is broken, so I can't see nuthin'. And I'm not a doctor. But I do recall hearing that if you've got red streaks running down your leg, i.e. actual discolorations in the skin (if that's even what you're describing), that's a sign of serious infection, and one should get thyself to the doc pronto.

Better safe than gimpy?

If what you're describing is just liquid running down your leg, then that sounds quite a bit less serious. Pop goes the puss-weasel and all that.

Sounds like lymph, which is normal, though what do I know about such things not being a medical professional? I assume it is a clear, right? Not yellow? Might be hard to tell with the red/blood in it, but if you are not running a fever and the skin does not feel hot, it is unlikely to be related to an infection.

No redness, no additional pain, no puss, no fever.......you're probably OK. Just keep it clean.

Disclaimer, I didn't stay at a holiday inn last night

I don't understand.

Why wouldn't you go to a doctor?
Probably the same reason I wouldn't. If it doesn't need a cast, stitches or surgery, I don't go.

It looks fairly minor, it's not like you're missing your actual hide and the muscle is showing. I'd keep it clean and covered, and use a hydro-colloidal bandage if you can afford it. Infection is the main worry, and that stuff running down your leg is formed to help the wound heal. There have been many posts on the subject :)

Oh yea, if you ride and wipe out and scrape the same site again, it really tickles hehe.

In my professional opinion, you need a combination of 1) blood letting, 2) Leaches, and 3) Maggots on the wound.
If, after a week, your wound continues to puss, and your leg begins to smell like a reanimated corpse, I would recommend removing the offending limb with a sharp axe.

That red streak might be indicating an infection. You don't want to lose that leg. Go to a doctor today.
This. I'd be far less concerned about the blob of goo than the streaks. Blood infections are bad, m'kay?
