I have an old mountain bike that I am trying to use for small trips to the grocery store. Both my front and rear wheels have a lot of play axially along the hub. The rear is a lot worse. I can move the rear wheel axially along the hub approx 1-2 cm. The skewer is tight. What could be the potential problem?

cm? or mm? I would assume that they are Shimano hubs. They can be adjusted. See

Thanks. I will try this out over the weekend. That the movement on the rear is in cm. It a lot. I disengaged the rear brake since it was dragging so much. The front one is not as bad.

By the way, it is an old Specalized Rockhopper. I bought it in 1996 used.
