I need a bond price from January 2004 for Caterpillar. I have the symbol, CATPN-DJ7, but I have no idea where to find a historical price for a specific date. Anybody have any idea? Thanks

if you have a brokerage account, i would try their quoting/charting service.

You may want to contact shareholder services. http://www.cat.com/cda/layout?m=37463&x=7 Although bondholders technically are not shareholders, shareholder services might be able to direct you to the right source if they cannot help you. I never have dealt with Caterpillar, but I have dealt with shareholder services at other companies. In my experience the shareholder people have been helpful.

Anyone with a Bloomberg terminal or online account.

/I can't find that symbol. Do you know the CUSIP? If not, coupon and maturity should find it. CAT is a frequent visitor to the bond market, so sifting the right data is tricky sometimes.

// Been too long away from the Treasury function. This should get you what you need, if you can get your way through it:

http://cxa.marketwatch.com/finra/MarketData/Default.aspx

Lists 500+ Caterpillar bonds, so a CUSIP or rate/date will be necessary to get the right one. Once you've selected the right issue, you can choose a date and size range to see trades. (they may not go back to 2004 though - I've only looked up more recent data.)
