I'm building an '04 Trek 5200 frame to possibly replace my '93 Litespeed and want to go 9 speed so I can use my existing wheels and cassettes.

Want new DA ST-7700 or U 6700 but new is limited and higher than the new 10s shifters.

I don't really buy into the 10s as an improvement and 11s may replace soon anyway.

Any thoughts to rationalize 10s?

Places to get 9s?

Thanks in advance for your participation.

Shimano cassettes are not real expensive. At some point, you just have to move on. Use the old ones on another bike. If the past is any example, it will be four years before Shimano has 11 speed, but greater competition might hasten that change.

A j-tek shiftmate would permit a 10 speed shifter to shift properly with a 9 speed cassette.

Supposedly the "alternate cable routing" (google it) will let you use a 10-speed shifter with a 9-speed cassette. I haven't tried it; I was going to but ended up going all 10 speed.
