First and foremost, thank you to anyone who takes the time to respond to my question as I really appreciate any help.

I'm a recreational cyclist who competes in triathlons a few times per year. I ride an old steel road bike that was given to me and I would like to take my cycling to the next level. Unfortunately I know very little about bikes or the components which can often be the most important.

I've been looking at the following bikes (my price range is between $1,000 - $2,000):

Jamis Xenith Comp
Trek 2.3
Trek 2.1
Felt F5
Scott CR1 Comp

Recommendations? Thank you so much in advance..

I have a 2008 Scott CR1 and love how it rides and handles. They changed the geometry a bit for 2010 so I have no idea how it compares. I've ridden a Felt F5 for a short ride and was very impressed with the handling. The Treks are aluminum frames and the others are carbon so there will be quite a difference in how they ride. Go ride them all and pick the one that feels best. All things being equal, I would pick the Jamis because it has the best components of any of them. But, all things are never equal.

I have a 2008 Trek 2.3 and LOVE it. Well designed, well built, well equiped and with a great warranty.

So much so that I bought a clearance '09 trek 2.1 and upgraded it to 2.3 specs. Now I have two.

P. S. I tried a carbon 4.7 but decided that the ride was no different than that of the 2.3 and I could use the extra $2 grand better than Trek. :)
