Just got our email notification that my wife and I made the lottery for the Death Ride. Anyone else get the lucky (or, depending on how you look at it not so lucky :) ) notification that they made it in?

I got email this morning saying I was in, then email at noon saying they'd sent mail to the wrong list. And email just now saying "sorry", you're not in after all. I'm crushed.

Anyone got a ticket to sell?

Two no's in my office.

I didn't apply this year, but two friends who've ridden it the last couple of years did. Both got rejections. We may go down and ride part of the course the week before or after--it's only about 75 miles away.

That blows. Nice to get your hopes up and then crush you. I confirmed our names were on the list so I guess we're good to go.

We only live about 30 miles at most from the passes. I figure we'll be riding Monitor by May 1st if the weather slows down some and hopefully Ebbits by mid June. I think my wife isn't quite as enthusiastic as I am, but she's ridden the majority of the ride before just for fun and is a strong rider so I'm not worried.

Awesome. This will be our first official riding it. We have ridden most of it unofficially just for fun though. I'm looking forward to it. Some of the better rides around as far as climbs into the mountains. I want to ride Ebbits from Highway 49 to Woodsfords this year but that'll have to wait until late July I think.

1st timer

I will be making the trip from Driggs, ID to do my first Death Ride this year.

Nothing like the reality of 15K of climbing to motivate a person. We are having a big winter here so I hope I can get out on the roads within the next three weeks. The trainer is getting old. :)

That's quite a drive. My brother lives in Pocatello. He said the weather has been pretty boring down there and pretty much rideable. Are you closer to the Tetons up there in Driggs? Haven't been up to visit him yet. He move there last year and both loves and hates the place. Says he feels awefully isolated sometimes.

Just show up early the day of the ride and they sell spots from people who can't make it. You have to pay a $20 late fee, though.

I haven't heard from them yet. What's up with that?

Road trip

I have family in Minden, NV so that is where I will stay before and after the ride. Driggs is at the base of the Tetons and just over the hill from Jackson, WY. I have actually contemplated driving to Pocatello just to get a good road ride in on the weekends. Our roads are still snowy.

"Just show up early the day of the ride and they sell spots from people who can't make it."

From my rejection email:
"We will NOT have late registration or a waiting list available. This year we are issuing event tickets to riders selected from the drawing. These tickets can be sold or given to another rider. You may try contacting your local bike club or bike shop to try to find someone who may be selling their ticket."

So, no showing up and getting in the day of the race. No tickie no ridie.

Luckily, I allready found someone looking to sell their ticket and am in.

I can imagine shady looking characters scalping Death Ride tickets like you see at sporting events and rock concerts. I bet people will sell them on ebay, too.

Supposedly they are watching for postings to ebay and will disqual any they see. Not sure how they enforce it though. The scalpers, that could be a possibility! Except they'll probably be the fat guys who didn't train before the ride and are too out of shape to do it. Watch for the pot bellies. They'll have the goods.
