I enjoyed riding Latigo Canyon a few days ago, with a temperature of about 68 degrees F (at the end of January) during midday. Latigo climbs 10 miles from Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu to the top of the Santa Monica Mountains, with about a 2400’ elevation gain to the top. Because it is a very windy road which does not lead to any populated area, there is very little traffic. There are mostly cyclists, with a few motorcycles and the occasional car. There is one great view after another – of the mountains, ocean, offshore islands and wildlife. A large hawk soared nearby when I was on a ridgetop, and I have seen deer, rabbits and coyotes on other rides. Descending through the switchbacks is as thrilling as any downhill ski run I’ve ever done. Enjoy the photographs, Terry
