Forgive my rant here but I saw a pregnant dirtbag standing outside her office building smoking yesterday. Blows me away. My fine city recently felt the need to outlaw smoking in any indoor public building. I'm ok with it, but I was ok before, don't go to a smoking bar if you don't like smoke. Don't work in a smoking establishment if it bothers you either.

It just really pisses me off when we vote in laws protecting those who don't need to be protected and this poor unborn child of a dirtbag wench gets all the firsthand smoke it can take. If I bought cigarettes for my 9 year old and let him smoke, guess where I'd be? This cretin walks down the street smoking, pregnant, piece of s%&t.

Pretty much everyone I know has a mother who smoked straight through her pregnancy. Even in the hospital when they were in labor. Oh, they drank too (well, not in the hospital). They all turned out fine.

I'd try being a little less judgemental.

If then was 1959, maybe I would agree with you.

But, I have a distinct memory of my taking a tour of the maternity floor of the hospital where my oldest daughter was to be born in 1989. At that time, smoking was not allowed in patient rooms, but was allowed in the floor's "smoking lounge." When we walked by there was a woman in labor smoking a cigarette, with an IV coming out of her arm and a monitor strapped to her middle. I did not know whether to scream or laugh at her. So, I did what I usually do -- I kept my mouth shut and stored the memory away for retelling at a later date.

BTW: Just so we can cut through the stereotypes of the type of woman who would have been doing this -- this was at a fairly upscale community hospital and although I did not know the woman, based on her age and looks, I would bet that she was both highly educated and affluent. But, she was stupid, nevertheless.

Better yet, let's discuss how on earth a company that supplies the general public with a hazardous product that, when used as directed, will kill them has managed to survive at all.
