1. You stop shaving your legs because it hides the varicose viens.
2. You look more forward to a bowel movement in the morning than riding your bike.
3. Your more concerned about what food is available at the ride than the course or who's there.
4. You want to get a different computer because you don't like the averages on your current one.
5. Summer weight is the same as winter weight.
6. You have to start paying attention to the bike parts that have weight limitations.
7. Your bike has lost more weight that you this year.
8. You live where it's pancake flat and are considering a triple.
9. Farm dogs catch you.
10. When you consider typing to respond to threads on RBR exersize.
11. When a glass of wine becomes the drink of choice after a ride instead of a beer.

I'm sure there are many more so feel free to add to the list.

Aging cyclisits

When you worry more about your ailments than your miles.
It's just too cold, too windy to ride
When you need a triple

Oh oh!

More of those accurately apply to me than I care to admit. Could be worse. At least I haven't considered switching to golf or bowling yet.

It's great to be older

1. You envison what your body will do if your crack up going more than 30 mph, so you relax and slow down.

2. You realize a 44/12 is the biggest gear you need and don't give a damn what anyone else thinks about your mountain crankset.

3. You have actually used a 22/27 gear and enjoyed it.

4. It doesn't bother you that 28 mm tires, a Brooks saddle, and high handlbars might reduce your average speed by 0.5 mph. You're happy to be comfortable.

You know that you've lost it when

You don't try to sprint between two riders who are two feet apart.
You're not the first one down to the bottom of the hill.
You're not the one to jump first in the sprint.
When you back off at the end of a race, and when asked, say" Well, it wasn't a matter of life or death."
And lastly
When you don't throw your bike for 10th place, anymore.

you discover that some of the old parts in your bike junk box are retro/valuable/fashionable/old school and might be worth selling on ebay to finance the purchase of modern parts.....

When you can afford the bike you wanted in your 20s, but don't want it anymore because it rides too harsh...

When those recumbent bikes start too seem like a good idea...

Excuse me, but that's not my belly...

...it's an aero fairing that smooths the airflow over the seat tube/saddle area, and I worked hard to get it!

Burning Matches

You don't have any matches left to burn at the end of a race because you used them all lighting the candles on your birthday cake.

You desperately search the RBR threads for post by cyclist younger and weaker than you to justify that you still "got it".

Your son starts beating you in races on a consistent basis.

When you put a bike carrier on a Buick.

Hey, I love my Buick...I'm only sorta old at 38! If it's good enough for Tiger (okay, he gets $5 million a year) it's good enough for me!
