I have a Tommasini Carbo Fire that I recently noticed the seat tube where the front derailure clamps on has become mushy. The lbs tells me that carbon has a history of conforming to that which is attached to it under compression. Has anyone ever heard of this? It is in an area where the carbon is thicker but when you take off the seat post you can see daylight. The mechanic thinks it would be ok to ride for a while as it is supported by the back triangle. What say you wise folks? I don't think it has been overtightened, I know they are always talking about specific tolerances on the carbon and think they use a torque wrench. The mechanic said most carbon now have the mountings for the components weaved into the carbon because of this problem. Any ideas? Who to repair? Calfee?

We can help

In addition to Calfee, we can also help. If the seat tube is indeed partially cracked from derailleur overtightening, if not addressed, the crack can grow and become a bigger structural problem. Can you ride it for now? Yes. But if you want to keep riding it, you'll need to address the problem before it becomes worse.
