Dia Gran Compe 400 brakes question

I have a set of the dia gran compe 400 brakes on one of my bikes and while taking apart the brakes to clean them i noticed that there are these brackets near the brake pad. they dont look like they add any benefit or performance, was just curious if anyone had more info on them? its hard to describe what im refering to so i added a picture

They're designed to guide the wheel when installing it into the frame. Not that big a deal in the shop, but helpful out on the road. During a hurried wheel replacement (like in a race), you don't want the wheel to hang up against a brake pad. Pushing a wheel hard into the bottom of a brake pad will also move the calipers off-center. These wheel guides help to prevent all that.
