FSA/SRAM vs bottom bracket question

I assume that an FSA SL-k crankset that came with an English bottom bracket will work with an Italian bottom bracket as well, is that correct?

Aren't the bottom brackets just different just to match with the frame?

Nope. Completely different threads. Thread an english BB into an Italian frame and you'll be crying in your beer.

I think what Blue is asking is if his FSA crank is compatible with both English and Italian threaded BB's.

Yes, you can use your FSA crank with an Italian BB. The difference is in the frame, and the shell is 2mm wider than an English BB/frame.

I do see that you put SRAM in your topic, but just remember SRAM BB's will not work with any other manufacturer.

Thanks, I guess I did not explain clearly. I know the bottom brackets are frame specific, (english thread BB into english thread frame) but can the cranksets themselves be interchanged? I would expect the diameter of the crank shaft to be the same. In this case it is an FSA SL-k crankset that came with an english bottom bracket that I would like to slip into an existing italian bottom bracket. Crankset change only, not the bottom bracket.

Thanks.

Thanks, that is exactly what I was asking.

Thanks for the insight on bottom brackets. I was under the misconception that older (2 years) FSA and SRAM used mega exo BB and that they were interchangable.

Doh. Yeah, re-reading it I get that now.

I think frd is right though, I don't recall FSA and SRAM ever being interchangeable.

Isn't SRAM the same as the Truvativ design?
