Looks pretty good to me. I don't think it's critical to have the two slots align perfectly, or even be close. For a while I had my clamp rotated 180 degrees and it worked fine.

Yes. The main reason here is to distribute the radially inward stress around the circumference of a CF seatpost rather than concentrating it at the slot in the seat tube.

 

I would rotate the clamp clockwise slightly so the right edge of the clamp is completely covering the slit in the seat tube with a couple of mm to spare.

 

I run mine reverse 180 degrees! That way, I get even tension on the bike, seat tube, etc....

 

I'm using the stock seatpost collar that came with my 2011 Bianchi Infinito. I removed the collar today and saw that it has lightly gouged the carbon fiber. I can feel an indentation with my finger nail when sliding my hand over it. Do you guys think this is something to worry about? I don't have a torque wrench, but I'm pretty careful to not over torque it by feel. This is my first carbon frame, so I'm extra worried about any damage.

Also, I read about a Campy asymmetrical collar that helps put even pressure around the tube. Isn't this one a similar design?

Edit:

I rotated slit on collar so that it doesn't match up with frame slit. How does this look? The damage may have been from the collar being matched up previously.

I think everything is fine. I would check the edges on the clamp to make sure there is nothing sharp that can dig into the seat tube, especially the right side of the clamp. If there is a sharp edge use a fine file or some sandpaper to clean it up.

 

I went on a long bike ride in NV.
I shipped back the bike (a specialized Allez Elite 2006) home.
The bike store which packaged the bike dismounted it to the point where I don't know how to put it back together:
For the seat stem I have two separate components:
1) The classical collar
2) a ring that appear to be exactly as wide as the frame.
the collar and a internal smaller edge whilst the ring as and external larger edge.
I am completely lost?
I don't know what to do with the ring. I don't recall where it was before.

Anyone has an idea?
