Good morning,

I would like to know your opinions about using varsol to degrease bicycle parts, the damage it can cause to paint, decals, etc.

What cons and pros can this bring to the bike

if you have links where they talk about this,

Thanks for your time

Varsol™ paint thinner
Varsol paint thinner is a pure, high quality professional grade cleaner, degreaser and paint thinner formulated to the most exacting standards for the toughest jobs.

It's a bad idea.

Paint thinner evaporates too quickly, so it is not a good solvent cleaner. As well as being dangerous, its flash point is very low.
And of course it can damage paint.

thanks for the answer.

It is not a product that is 100% Varsol, it includes a small amount of Varsol, odourless.
100% would damage the paint immediately

I use mineral spirits to degrease most stuff. They make a low-odor/low aromatic version that is comparatively safe and is cheap. Mineral spirits is a paint thinner so your experience may vary regarding what it does to decals, etc. I find that it will not attack a good, hard factory paint job.

The other alternative is Simple Green, which is not petroleum based. It does not necessarily play well with aluminum. Again, any time you are cleaning bike parts it can be hard on decals, etc.

Go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy a gallon of Zep Citrus degreaser for $13. Won't harm paint or components. Won't harm shiny aluminum either (avoid the purple cleaner stuff -- it does). Works great straight out of the jug. I've been using it for years.

I'd maybe consider mineral spirits for soaking a greasy bike part in.

According to his profile and the flag, he's from Columbia. So his options are probably different.
