I don't think you understand. That IS what they wanted in the first place.
u’r right, but all that $$$ spent could have ultimately bought them a not too shabby GLE or GLS, brand new

“buy the ___ you want, keep it nice and clean, leave it the f alone …”

thats a lesson i learned from exorbitant spending in my past

If someone wants to do that to their car, and they have the money, then that's up to them. As long as it isn't dangerous (which @zero7404 's picture actually is).
I agree it's their money and their decision. It's also my right to make fun of them for doing something incredibly stupid.

'You're'. And you definitely don't understand. They don't want a GLE, they want that, stance, or lowered, and tires stretched. It's a thing, trust me. There are lots of people that will never leave a car alone, myself included. For lots of people...you have to make it yours. I would love to have a nice old 510, lowered, built motor, loud ass exhaust, with 13" Shelby Libre wheels.

One still would never get a pinch flat if your rim was 2x the tire width. It's that simple!!!!
I had another road bike flat today, just ordered 2 new tubeless, going to give'r another go! .... everything else is slimmed!

Huh? If this is your idea of stand up comedy, don't give up your day job. 🙄

If people want to make fun of me for biking (or the bike I buy), that is their prerogative. I'll have my fun. They can have theirs. How many of us are riding a bike exactly as it came from the factory (You haven't mounted lights, any sort of "bag", bottle cages, different wheelset, tires, or seat, handlebar tassles, etc)?

Besides, those car mods keep a not-insignificant part of the population employed... and out of prison (j/k).

Back to the discussion at hand. My new bike came with a "free" wheelset. I had the bike guy put Continental GP 5000 S TR 30mm on the "free" wheelset. Turns out the specs say a maximum bead width of 25mm, but that free wheelset has a 26mm inner width. I've already ridden a significant distance on them with no issues. Am I courting disaster? The tire looks fine.

Uh-Oh

The Schwalbe tire fit table said a max of 25mm inner rim. I couldn't find anything from Continental. But those tires... da##! Ludicrous speed!

don't think that 1mm of extra wheel width will upset the tire … we’re talking about 1/32” … not enough to cause a problem.

thats an interesting read … noticed how they mentioned the tire/rim shape how aero is affected. to some extent its a good point. but the cross section should be more like a symmetrical airfoil. wonder if some wheelsets are asymmetrical on their center plane … that would cause an air pressure difference between the drive/non-drive halves of the wheel.
the influence of aero is probably more dominant at the 3 o clock position if you’re observing the bike from the drive side.
