I finally decided to put trekking bars on my touring bike, which is setup with a Suntour Alpha 3000 drivetrain. So, I would like to put Thumbies on my bars. Does anyone know if I can use Suntour 6 speed mountain-series shifters like Accushift XCM 3040 with my Alpha 3000 derailleur, or do I need a matching 3040 derailleur to make it work? I will be using it in friction mode; I just happened to come across a pretty good deal on a pair of those shifters, but if it means buying an XCM derailleur too, I'm out.
My other option would be to use Paul's Thumbies with my current downtube Alpha shifters, at 5 times the cost, but would probably last longer. I'm waiting to hear back from Paul's on compatibility of my Suntour downtube shifters on their 22.2 Thumbies.
