yes...

gene's top notch. one of the best guys in the industry from a service standpoint. he definitely won't do you wrong. I've gone to him a couple times for a wheel build and some frame repair. super easy to deal with and very good work. don't know alot about his ti stuff though, I think he specs it and has it built elsewhere to get that pricepoint, like everybody else. not that that's a bad thing. check out the single speed board at mtbr.com. alot of those dudes are riding his EBB ti ss frame. should be some feedback. 3 thumbs up for spicer though. he'll get my frame repair/mod biz for my lifetime.

chi-ti

I've heard nothing but bad things about the Spicer ti forks. There have been several postings on the mtbr 29" board regarding their longevity, or should I say lack of. In brief there are problems with quality. IE not properly purging the tubes durring the welding process. This will make the welds very brittle and that lifelong relationship you expect from ti would be cut short and possibly take you with it. I can't comment on the frames but after hearing about the forks I would give them a wide berth.

Do a search on this board http://forums.mtbr.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=&forumid=61 look for postings by Walt.

FYI I ride an aluminum spicer on the track and have no problems with it, though the finishing is crap. But man was it cheap.

Thought it looked like a great deal? Any ideas? I also listed this on what bike to buy.
Thanks for the help.
I've got a Spicer Ti Cross frame and fork that I just bought slightly used. I called Gene Spicer to ask him about them before I made the purchase and he said he has never had a 'cross Ti frame or fork break. It all seems very solid and the whole bike weighs in at 18lbs. in full cross build. Unfortunately, the 53/39 road cranks I just bought for it don't fit, and if Gene says I can't make it work I'll have to sell it. If I do I'll post it in the classfieds for about $800 for the frame fork and headset. Also of note, Gene said the frame is built by the same guys who build the Voodoo Ti 'cross frames.

I can't speak to the Ti frames, but just built up an aluminum Spicer track frame. Gene is absolutely wonderful to deal with, and the frame is very nice, especially considering the price. The welds (and again, remember I'm talking about the Alu and have never seen a Spicer Ti) are burly and brutal rather than refined, but the whole bike is, well, burly and brutal just like a track bike should be.

You'll get great, personal service from Gene, one of the nicest guys in the biz.

Cheers!
