I'm building a new road bike. The first was three years ago, during the lockdown. It is a tailor-sized steel frame after 27 years of city commuting on an aluminum hybrid, just to try out the road without going crazy with the budget.
Later COVID gave me the chance to move to a small town where I am easily riding 100K every morning before going back home for my remote job. I never anticipated this so my 9sp steel frame is falling short now, looks like it is time to build something else.
I've always built my rides under my own terms, not buying branded bikes is almost a matter of principles. But road cycling is a new thing to me despite being an avid cyclist for over 29 years, and carbon seems to be an overwhelming new world to me.
My first choice was a local brand: "
Uranium", from EF Education's rockstar and local hero Rigoberto Urán. Beautiful, affordable, well-marketed, and great local customer support. But XS (I'm 5'2", even shorter than Nairo Quintana) frames were out of stock for months. Later I realized the reason: there is a new version of the frame and it doesn't come with a caliper version. I don't want disc, just because I prefer caliper so that was a deal breaker. Option 2 is
GW, another local brand but they're not appealing. Option 3
was an used Colnago V2Rs but it turned out to be too big for me, unfortunately.
So I started to soak my feet into the Chinese frames ocean and found these two "major" brands:
Twitter and
AGR.
I can't find any reviews / comments on them here, is anyone here able to comment on those?
Thank you!
