I recently removed my cassette hub body from my rear hub. While doing so I noticed that the bearing grease seemed like a standard axle grease on the axle and bearings but when I removed the cassette hub body I noticed that grease was very hard and thick.

My question is what NLGI grease rating is considered to thick for Axle and Bottom Brackets?

BB and axle bearings 1.5-2
Hub body, not sure, but could probably go 0 or 00... some people use oil instead of grease. Shimano has a specific product for it of unknown NLGI. I think this 00 would be a good choice for the hub body bearings, but I can't find it anywhere and haven't tried it.

Be sure to clean things out real good, greases don't always play well together. The hard/thick grease may be the result of two incompatible greases.
