Any easy way to tell if whether rear derailleur is an SS or GS..?

Thanks .....I guess I didnt reveal why I wanted to know whether I had a SS or GS.....but I am looking at going from a 28 to a 32 in my cassette (11 speed). And a buddy mentioned that I may need to get a GS derailleur. Which prompted me to wonder..."what do I have". And unfortunately there is no marking on it that tells me. But sounds like I have an SS and it will only support up to a 30....and anything above that, I'll need to get a GS derailleur.

What, that you were blindly shooting from the hip then? A weatherman predicting weather by thowing darts at the wall sometimes gets lucky too. It doesn't mean he knows anything about how to predict weather.

It was never made clear which der he had then, but the options based on the incomplete information were correctly presented by several responders. You were the only one who confidently stated he needed a new der, and when challanged even agreed no one knew enough info. The OP didn't even know how to identify which 105 der he had until today's thread and is probably something he still needs to verify, now that he knows what to look for.

And to add, though technically a short cage is supposed to max out at 30T cog, there are many situations where one can safely exceed that by a couple teeth. One needs to also consider total wrap capacity, and the specific frame (such as chainstay length and hanger length). Do you know any of those details of the OP's bike? Or are hoping you guessed that correctly too.

Are you going to get around to explaining how one can lower a stem further than was attempted with an internal brake hose without cutting the steerer tube - from yesterday when you once again provided expert like advice while making no sense?

Beer....it isn't just for breakfast anymore. 🙄

Now back on topic.

There is an old saying in New England, if you don't like the weather, just wait 5 minutes.

I have spent the majority of the last 2+ hours setting up for a work picnic outside because there’s only a 5% chance of rain before 2pm.
I literally just used a leaf blower to get rid of puddles in the area.

It just started raining. Fml

Shit, that sucks. TWC forecasts in my area are usually not that wildly inaccurate – only on rare occasssions. It's been frustrating the past few years trying to find windows of clear weather to ride, to the point that it put a dent in my overall mileage. If there's precipitation in the area, I usually consult a few apps. If the forecasts are similar, it's usually pretty solid. If they're different and changing rapidly, it's a dice roll. I haven't been able to determine if one service is more accurate. I find Apple Weather and Weather Underground radar to be far more usable.

When I'm out in California, no such issues. I glance at the forecast and I'm out the door.
