I'm considering two Raleigh road bikes. The Record Ace is Ultegra with a steel frame. The Revenio is Ultegra with an alloy frame. Both have crap wheels but I have some Dura Ace wheels I will use.

Any thoughts on your part? Thx.

I purchased a Grand Prix steel recently. It rides nice on smoother roads. It's heavy. It has great geometry for bombing downhills. It will beat you up over rougher surfaces, especially descents.

I think the Revenio you refer to is Aluminum with carbon legged fork which will be lighter by a few pounds and will offer a smoother ride. The Record Ace is roadracing low geometry where the Revenio is upright geometry.

Go full carbon if you want a comfortable ride.

Steel is the way I would go. The Record Ace and International are very nice indeed! The main difference is the tubes used. 520 air hardened vs. 853 heat hardened. The gage might be a bit different, too, with 520 a bit thicker. but, still this is a modern day steel frame and a 520 should come in in the low 4lbs range. for a 55cm frame.

Raleigh should be given mighty props for bringing these beauties to market!!!!!!

Both of these are great options. Personally, I would go with the Record Ace because a steel frame these days is still rare. Try finding a new steel frame anywhere else with the lugwork that this one has for the price. In response to Kneejerk's comment I can understand the weight thing and ride quality issue with the Grand Prix. However, that isn't the frame: It's your wheels. I have Velocity Deep Vs and the Weinmann DP18s are essentially a knock off of Velocity Deep Vs. They are stiff and ridiculously heavy, but they are crazy strong. The OP is planning to fix that issue with the Dura Ace wheels. With the right tires, he should be able to shave off a good 1.5 lbs. The rims are at least 1lb. lighter. That's how heavy those Weinmanns are. Most of what you feel are those wheels. You don't need carbon to have a comfortable ride.
