Speedplay Frog problem: cleats? screws? shoes? pedals?

I've been riding with Speedplay Frogs for a little over two years, >7k miles per year (road bike). Just recently I've been experiencing two distinct problems, wondering if anyone else has encountered these & if so whether you found a solution:

1) The screws holding the cleats to my shoes (Specialized Body Geometry MTB) have started coming loose with alarming regularity. Not so loose that they rattle around or anything, but just loose enough that the cleats twist a bit, causing my inner heel to strike the crankarm. I have to re-position the cleat & tighten down the screws at least every two or three rides now.

Should I just slather the screw threads with Loctite Threadlocker Blue & hog 'em down some more? Or are my screws toast? Cleats toast? Pedals toast? Soles of my shoes toast? These are the same shoes for these entire two years; the cleats & screws are maybe 18 months old.

2) This one's a little harder to describe, or to document authoritatively, but -- it seems as if my foot is tilting or rolling when I stand out of the saddle. (I guess in Flight Dynamics parlance "Roll" is the correct term: they're rotating along an axis that passes from the toe to the heel, parallel to the direction the bike is travelling.) I can't swear this is really happening, because it's subtle. But it's definitely a new sensation.

So I'm wondering, are my cleats (or pedals) worn, allowing this rolling motion? Are the formerly very stiff soles (or insoles?) of my shoes compromised due to age/wear&tear, allowing this rolling motion? Or did my feet always roll and I'm only just now becoming sensetive to this subtle sensation?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

These problems sound to me like they're related. I've ridden Frogs for several years and I can't imagine having a bit of "roll" in the foot-pedal connection. A solid sole with a solid cleat and pedal will not allow any roll. Nor will the normal clearance between the cleat and the connection to the pedal. I wonder if there's a crack in your shoe where the cleat is connected. A crack could allow some "roll", which could then help loosen the cleat bolts. You might have to remove the cleats and press and poke at the sole to see if there's any movement.

Otherwise I'm stumped.

In addtion, as others note, the recepticle for the bolt in the shoe may be damaged.

Heel hitting the chain stay:
On occasion, my cleat has twisted so that my heel hit the chain stay bar; to fix this, I loosened the cleat from the bottom of the shoe and twisted the entire cleat, moving "bolt-recepticles" in the shoe. Keep torquing the cleat in the proper direction while tightening the bolts. Also don't tighten one bolt all the way before tightening the others. Try to keep each bolt equally tightened and go around from one bolt to the other (a trick taught to me by someone who fixes head gaskets on engines), torquing the cleat as you go around several times from bolt to bolt.

Slippage
If the bolt was misthreaded into the recepticle, it may have stripped the recepticle and this might lead to slipping. To avoid misthreading in the future, try cleaning the grit with a Q-tip before rethreading the bolt into the recepticle. Sometimes a little WD-40 or 3-in-one oil may help with the cleaning / preliminary threading.

check: The thread plate inside the shoe. Might be cracked (fatgiued) around one or more of the holes, allowing for slippage and looseness, and given those, rocking.

Also, are you using Frog-specific screws? I lost one once, and attempted to use a similar-appearing screw in it's place. Was the correct size (thread pitch and diameter) and head type, but something didn't work as well and it came loose more often.
