As mentioned earlier I've been working on the tool which would allow to check the "real" tension of the spokes. Such tool is usually called "Tension meter calibration device" but in my opinion it's not just to calibrate the tension meters but to measure the real spoke tension before the wheel build.

I highly recommend to watch the video #3 where I'm showing the differences in readings between the same type of spokes but different manufacturers (ex. Sapim vs CN) or same type and manufacturer but colored vs standard. Such attributes are never included in the generic charts provided together with spoke tension meters and if that's not taken into account the spokes tension might be different than the wheel-builder thinks/wants.
